Guitar Solo by Chen Chuan
Presented by Classical Music Society Sel/KL

Chen Chuan was born in 1985 in Changchun of the Jilin Province of China. He was introduced to the guitar at a tender age of eight years with the help of his father Chen Xuhong, who was a well-known guitar teacher in the Jilin province. In 1995, Chen Chuan became a student to Professor Chen Zhi, a prominent international guitarist and artist at the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) in China. In 1997, Chen Chuan entered Middle School affiliated to CCOM to pursue cultural studies. This played an important role in his development into a professional guitarist. He has been a part of the guitar faculty at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and took up the position as chief of Guitar Foundation Chen Piau (GFCP) of CCOM. Six years later, Chen Chuan enrolled into CCOM to begin his college life. He received more attention and professional guidance from Professor Chen and other international guitarists. There, he spent his days in rigorous practice and reaped the rewards in 2002; when he won second place in the 5th Vienna Forum Youth Guitar Competition and the first place in the 4th Hong Kong International Guitar Competition. In 2006, Chen was involved in founding the Soul Chamber Ensemble, a music group made up of many outstanding young musicians, such as David Qu and Liu Zhao. In 2011, Chen was awarded the first place in the 2nd Barrios WorldWideWeb Competition and then participated as a guitar accompanist in the Menuhin Competition Beijing 2012. In 2013, at the invitation of Joji Hattori, a famous Violinist and Conductor, Chen gave an impressive performance with the Wiener Kammer Orchestra playing the Fantasía Para Un Gentilhombre by Joaquín Rodrigo in Vienna. As the chief of GFCP of CCOM, Chen’s performances in Guitar solo, Duo and quartet are widely praised by Professor Chen and other international guitarists at home in and abroad in the United States, Austria, Germany.
